Market Correction Amid Global Pressures

Indian equity benchmarks faced heavy selling pressure on Thursday, opening sharply lower and extending losses through the session. At the closing bell, the benchmark Sensex dropped over 550 points, while the Nifty slumped past the 150-point mark. Market analysts attribute the downturn to mixed global cues and a fresh uptick in international crude oil prices. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee remained relatively resilient, opening steady at 94.47 against the US dollar.

Despite the broader market slump, several key developments across technology, employment, and energy policy captured investor attention.

Karta AI Secures $3 Million to Scale BFSI Voice Tech

In the startup ecosystem, multi-intent agentic voice AI platform Karta AI announced a $3 million funding round led by PeerCapital and Cedar Hill Capital. Additional participation came from Wyser VC, CDM Capital, and Seedstars.

The platform, which specializes in automated inbound customer operations for banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), is already operational with major financial institutions. Karta AI currently processes approximately 2 million customer conversations every month across 25 different languages.

Festive Season Drives 15% Spike in Grey-Collar Jobs

The retail and logistics sectors are witnessing a notable surge in employment ahead of Diwali. Data indicates a 15% rise in grey-collar job openings as companies ramp up operations to meet festive demand. This aligns with broader projections from NITI Aayog, which estimates that India's expanding gig and logistics workforce will scale to 2.35 crore workers by the end of the decade.

Energy Policy Concerns: BIEPA Challenges Ethanol Tender

In the energy sector, the Biofuels Industry and Environmental Producers Association (BIEPA) has formally urged the Ministry and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to review the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2026-27 tender, which spans 1,100 crore litres.

BIEPA flagged potential cost disparities and financial risks for independent producers, pointing to preferential allocations given to Long-Term Obligation Agreement (LTOA) holders. The association noted that maize-based ethanol is priced at ₹68.86 per litre compared to ₹64 per litre for damaged food grain-based ethanol, warning that the current tender structure could inflate procurement costs.

Cryptocurrency Market Update

Minal Thukral, Executive VP of Growth and Crypto Business Head at CoinDCX, noted that Bitcoin is facing notable upward resistance, driving prices below the $83,000 threshold as major altcoins experience parallel market adjustments.
