Himachal Pradesh Declares State-Wide Holiday on October 29 for Karwa Chauth
The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a public holiday on October 29 across all government offices, educational institutions, and boards for Karwa Chauth.

State-Wide Closure Announced
The Himachal Pradesh government has officially declared October 29 as a public holiday across the state to mark the occasion of Karwa Chauth. According to an administrative order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the closure will apply extensively to all government offices, boards, corporations, schools, colleges, and universities throughout the state.
The decisive step aims to facilitate employees and students in participating and celebrating the traditional festival with their families.
Scope and Exemptions
The official directive covers all state government departments, public sector undertakings, and educational institutions within the region. However, authorities have clarified that commercial banks will maintain their regular operational hours and remain open as usual to ensure financial services are not disrupted.
Karwa Chauth is widely observed by married women who traditionally observe a day-long fast seeking the longevity, health, and prosperity of their husbands. The state-wide holiday ensures that employees balancing professional commitments and traditional observances are granted the necessary time off.
