Honoring a Fallen Hero

In a solemn display of national gratitude, the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and local residents converged in Arunachal Pradesh's Keyi Panyor district to honor the enduring legacy of Neelam Tebi, an Assam Rifles soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1962 India-China war.

Marking the 64th anniversary of his supreme sacrifice, the state government has officially earmarked Rs 5 crore for the first phase of a grand memorial dedicated to the fallen hero. The initiative seeks to preserve the historical memory of border defense personnel who defended India's sovereignty under extreme duress during the historic conflict.

The Historic Sacrifice of Neelam Tebi

Military records indicate that Neelam Tebi sustained critical combat injuries on October 19, 1962, while valiantly holding his ground against advancing hostile forces. Despite immediate efforts by his comrades, he succumbed to his injuries the following day on October 20.

For decades, his bravery remained etched in the collective memory of local communities in the northeastern frontier. The upcoming memorial aims to transform this historical remembrance into a permanent architectural landmark, inspiring future generations of citizens and defense personnel alike.

Unified Tribute at the Memorial Site

The commemorative ceremony saw active participation from the Indian Army's 19th Battalion of the JAT Regiment, alongside personnel from the ITBP and regional villagers. Wreaths were laid at the proposed memorial site, accompanied by a guard of honor that resonated across the rugged terrains of Keyi Panyor.

- Joint Armed Forces Participation: Troops from the JAT Regiment and ITBP stood shoulder-to-shoulder with local community leaders. - State Investment: An initial outlay of Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned to fast-track the first phase of construction. - Geographical Significance: The memorial reinforces the strategic and emotional bond between India's frontline security forces and the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
