Investigation Underway in Bongaigaon

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell in Assam was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a hotel room in the Bongaigaon district, local authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The deceased officer has been identified as Khargeswar Rabha. According to investigators, his body was discovered in a partially decomposed state inside a room at Hotel Jahnavi Regency.

Timeline and Discovery

Preliminary inquiries indicate that DSP Rabha had checked into the hotel on October 18. The grim discovery came to light after hotel staff noticed a foul odor emanating from the room and observed a complete lack of movement over an extended period. Staff immediately notified local law enforcement.

Senior police officials, including forensic teams, rushed to the location, secured the premises, and commenced evidence collection before recovering the body.

Initial Police Findings

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Numal Mahato addressed the initial findings, stating that authorities are exploring multiple angles, including potential health-related complications.

"The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, and we are awaiting the post-mortem report to establish the sequence of events," SSP Mahato said. "While preliminary observations suggest health issues could be a factor, a full investigation is underway to rule out any foul play."

Next Steps in the Probe

Police have launched a comprehensive formal inquiry into the circumstances of DSP Rabha's stay and subsequent death. Investigators are currently reviewing:

* Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the hotel premises * Call detail records (CDR) associated with the officer * Hotel visitor logs and staff testimonies

The body has been transferred for a detailed post-mortem examination. Further official updates and disclosures are expected once the medical and forensic reports are finalized.
