Legal Relief for CJP Spokespersons

NEW DELHI — Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka walked out of judicial custody on Tuesday after spending seven days behind bars. A Special Executive Magistrate in the national capital ordered their immediate release, concluding a week-long detention stemming from a high-profile demonstration at a restricted public site.

The two spokespersons had been detained since October 14 following an escalation over the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest zone. Prosecution had earlier argued that their demonstration violated a peace bond they had executed with local authorities on October 10.

The Jantar Mantar Protest

The sequence of events leading to their imprisonment unfolded on October 13, when Das and Ranka scaled the locked perimeter gates of the historic Jantar Mantar venue. Once inside, the CJP leaders waved national flags to protest the ongoing administrative ban on public demonstrations at the site—a location that has historically served as the epicenter for civil resistance and political dissent in New Delhi.

Law enforcement personnel swiftly intervened, detaining the duo and subsequently initiating legal proceedings for allegedly breaching the terms of the peace bond signed just days prior.

'Truth Has Triumphed'

Upon stepping out of custody, Saurav Das offered a brief remark to supporters and press gathered outside, declaring, "Truth has triumphed." Legal representatives and associates present at the release celebrated the development, sharing optimistic updates across social media platforms.

The release marks a significant turn in the ongoing friction between emerging political formations and administrative restrictions on public assembly in the capital. Legal experts following the case note that the revocation of judicial custody opens up space for renewed legal challenges regarding the constitutional validity of restricting access to traditional assembly zones like Jantar Mantar.
