Communal Tensions Erupt in Gujarat's Songadh Over Social Media Post; 10 Arrested
Songadh police detain 10 individuals following stone-pelting and unrest sparked by an objectionable social media post during Navratri.

Navratri Festivities Marred by Unrest
Tension gripped Songadh town in Gujarat's Tapi district following an allegedly objectionable religious post circulated on social media amid the ongoing Navratri festival. The incident quickly escalated into local unrest and stone-pelting, prompting a heavy deployment of law enforcement personnel to restore public order.
According to local reports, the altercation flared up when a volatile group targeted the residence of a local resident. Prompt intervention by the Tapi district police prevented the situation from escalating further into widespread communal violence. Additional security personnel were swiftly dispatched to sensitive pockets across the town.
Community Outrage and Police Action
In the wake of the violence, local community members and representatives of Hindu organizations gathered at the local police station, expressing deep anguish and demanding strict legal action against the perpetrators.
Complainant Bakul Chaudhari stated that the inflammatory remarks were a deliberate attempt to breach communal harmony during a sacred festive period. Victim Gaurav Chaudhari, whose home was targeted, recounted the terrifying moments of the attack, emphasizing the critical role played by law enforcement in securing the area.
Responding to formal complaints and mounting public outrage, the Tapi district police launched a comprehensive investigation. Authorities successfully identified multiple suspects, detaining 10 individuals—including a minor—out of an estimated crowd of 25 to 30 people.
The detained suspects have been identified as: - Wasim Sheikh - Farhan Mansuri - Shakir Pathan - Javed Pathan - Musharraf Bagwan - Hamza Sheikh - Adil Mansuri - Tausif Khatik - Altaf Mansuri
Public Crime Scene Reconstruction
In an unusual procedural move, the Tapi district police conducted a thorough crime scene reconstruction in full public view. Under heavy police escort, the detained suspects were marched on foot from the police station directly to the victim's residence where the stone-pelting occurred.
Law enforcement officials stated that the reconstruction was aimed at establishing the exact sequence of events, gathering vital forensic evidence, and sending an unequivocal message regarding the consequences of disturbing public peace.
Administration Urges Calm
Tapi Deputy Superintendent of Police Ishwar Parmar confirmed that the situation is currently under full control. Senior officials are maintaining a strict vigil across the region, warning that any attempts to incite communal disharmony or disrupt law and order will be dealt with severely.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain calm, refrain from sharing unverified content on social media platforms, and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies as the investigation continues.
