According to local police, the young man's body was discovered resting on the corrugated tin shed roof of a building situated near Panchmore along GTB Road. Law enforcement and a specialized forensic team were quickly dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and determine the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.

Investigators revealed that Darjee was part of a group of nine young men and women who had recently traveled from Darjeeling to Dhubri in search of employment. The group had found local jobs working at various establishments, including regional momo shops and beauty parlours.
They shared rented accommodations within the same multi-story building where Darjee's body was ultimately recovered.
