Delhi Influencer Arrested Following Outrage Over Racist Video Targeting Tripura Youth
Delhi Police have arrested a social media content creator following widespread condemnation and high-level political outrage over a viral video featuring racial abuse against a youth from Tripura.

Swift Action by Law Enforcement
NEW DELHI — Delhi Police have arrested a local social media content creator in connection with a viral video that allegedly subjected a young man from Tripura to racial abuse, harassment, and severe humiliation. The arrest follows intense public backlash and direct interventions from senior political leadership across party lines.
The accused has been identified as Amir Shokeen, a resident of the capital's Sadar Bazar area. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt, Shokeen is classified as a habitual offender with a history of prior involvement in brawls and public disturbances.
The investigation was initially triggered when Delhi Police took suo motu cognisance of the widely circulated footage. The case was subsequently handed over to the department's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, acting on a formal reference from the Special Police Unit for the North Eastern Region (SPUNER).
Political Condemnation and Legal Proceedings
The video sparked immediate national outrage, drawing sharp rebukes from high-ranking officials. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha both voiced public fury, demanding exemplary punishment for the accused.
Writing on social media, Minister Rijiju assured the public that the perpetrator would face stringent consequences, stating that law enforcement agencies in both Delhi and Tripura would ensure a strict legal lesson is delivered.
According to police sources, a specialized team from the Tripura Police arrived in the capital to coordinate custody transfer. Authorities plan to produce Shokeen before a local court to secure transit remand for further interrogation. Investigators have indicated that roughly seven to eight individuals are suspected of involvement in the recording and dissemination of the controversial footage, which was allegedly filmed in Ahmedabad approximately a month prior.
Formal Complaint and Student Body Intervention
The legal net tightened following a formal complaint filed by the Tripura Students Forum Delhi (TSFD). In a memorandum addressed to the Joint Commissioner of Police (SPUNER), the student body demanded an urgent and impartial probe into the incident.
The complaint detailed allegations of sexual harassment, abusive treatment, and racially derogatory remarks aimed not only at the victim but also encompassing demeaning references to the state of Tripura as a whole. The TSFD urged law enforcement to secure all digital footprints, including metadata, upload logs, and the original video files, while calling for comprehensive measures to shield the victim from further intimidation.
