Incident Triggers Brief Unrest

Tension briefly gripped the Madannapet area in Hyderabad's Old City late Saturday night following an incident involving an alleged attack on a Goddess Durga idol procession. According to local law enforcement, an egg was reportedly thrown at the religious procession at approximately 2:00 am near the Santosh Hotel Lane.

The unexpected occurrence caused a temporary halt and stirred agitation among the participants and onlookers gathered for the late-night celebrations. However, the situation was swiftly contained due to the immediate presence and active intervention of local police units.

Swift Police Response and Containment

Senior law enforcement officials rushed to the location upon receiving reports of the incident. The high-level response team included Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Charminar zone Kiran Khare, Additional DCP Majid, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shyam Sunder, Saidabad ACP Venkat Reddy, and Madannapet Station House Officer K Chandra Sekhar.

Officers engaged directly with the event organizers and the gathered crowds, urging calm and ensuring that the situation did not escalate further. Authorities confirmed that several suspects have been detained in connection with the incident.

"We received information that an egg was thrown while the Durga Mata idol procession was passing near Santosh Hotel Lane at around 2 am," a senior police official stated. "Senior officers arrived at the spot, spoke with the organisers and took the suspects into custody. We are checking CCTV cameras."

Investigation and Appeal for Harmony

Investigators are currently reviewing extensive CCTV footage from the surrounding area to piece together the exact sequence of events and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved in the disruption.

Police officials reported that after discussions with law enforcement, the organizers understood the gravity of the situation and chose to peacefully continue with the remainder of the procession. Authorities have emphasized that the overall atmosphere in the area remains completely peaceful and under control.

Reiterating the importance of maintaining public order, police have strongly urged the general public to refrain from spreading unverified information, rumors, or provocative content across social media platforms and messaging applications. Officials cautioned that false narratives risk stoking unnecessary communal friction.

Strict legal action has been promised against anyone found responsible for attempting to disturb the peace. Law enforcement continues to maintain a strong presence in the neighborhood to ensure safety and has appealed to residents to cooperate fully with the ongoing inquiry.
