Political tensions have risen in Andhra Pradesh following a public dispute over a family wedding venue.

Family Rift Over Bengaluru Estate Enters Public Domain

What began as a private family disagreement between YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila, has escalated into a major political controversy. The friction centers on the use of the Yelahanka Palace property in Bengaluru as a venue for Sharmila's daughter's wedding.

The venue dispute prompted sharp political attacks, with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stepping into the family feud to criticize the YSRCP chief's conduct.

The YSRCP Response and Security Concerns

Amid mounting political pressure, the YSRCP released a letter dated October 9, written by Jagan Mohan Reddy and addressed to his sister, clarifying the reasons behind his refusal to host the wedding at the Bengaluru estate.

In the letter, Reddy extended his best wishes for the wedding of his niece, Anjili, while maintaining that logistical and security realities precluded using his private residence for a large-scale event. He noted that a wedding celebration would draw substantial crowds—including caterers, decorators, event managers, photographers, and numerous uninvited or unfamiliar guests—posing significant privacy and security risks to his immediate family.

"At the end of the day, this is my home and I want to ensure that me and my family are safe here," Reddy wrote, emphasizing that the decision applied uniformly to his own daughters as well.

Political Fallout and Criticism from Chandrababu Naidu

The dispute quickly transcended domestic boundaries when Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu publicly addressed the controversy. Accusing Reddy of failing in his role as an elder brother, Naidu invoked mythological comparisons, referring to the YSRCP leader as "like Kansa Mama"—the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna known for adversity toward his kin.

Naidu claimed that the Yelahanka property had been divided into distinct portions by their late father, former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and argued that security justifications were being manufactured by those surrounding the former chief minister. Furthermore, Naidu asserted that family relationships should remain insulated from political and property disputes.

As political reactions continue to reverberate across Andhra Pradesh, the public feud highlights the complex interplay between high-profile familial friction and state politics.
