MCD House Plunges Into Chaos As Mics Broken And Files Thrown Amid Heated Pollution Debate
Proceedings at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi dissolved into chaos as councillors clashed over development funds and air pollution.

Civic Body Proceedings Turn Violent Over Funds and Smog
NEW DELHI — Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House proceedings on Thursday descended into complete disarray, marked by broken microphones, flying files, and physical confrontations among councillors from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The session, initially convened to deliberate urgent strategies for combating Delhi's worsening air pollution crisis, quickly derailed following disputes over ward development fund allocations.
The Flashpoint: Development Funds Dispute
The turmoil erupted when AAP councillors pressed for the immediate disbursement of development funds for their respective wards. In an attempt to restore order, Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced an immediate release of ₹25 lakh, assuring members that a total of ₹2 crore would be made available to each councillor during the ongoing financial year.
However, the concession failed to appease the opposition benches. AAP representatives demanded an immediate baseline allocation of ₹1 crore per ward. As slogans grew louder, opposition councillors marched toward the mayor's podium, compelling the chair to adjourn the House for five minutes.
Escalation During Pollution Debate
When the session reconvened, the agenda shifted to the capital's severe air pollution crisis, with opposition members sharply questioning the civic administration's preparedness and mitigation efforts.
The discussion rapidly deteriorated into personal and political hostility, bringing BJP and AAP members to the brink of physical altercations. Visuals from the chamber captured AAP councillor Shagufta Zubair breaching the mayor's dais and damaging the official microphone, while Leader of Opposition Ankush Narang also allegedly attempted to target the audio equipment.
As water bottles and official files were hurled across the chamber floor, security marshals intervened, swiftly escorting Mayor Wahi out of the hall to ensure his safety.
Cross-Party Clashes and Disciplinary Action
Tensions were further exacerbated by verbal sparring between Congress leader Nazia Danish and AAP's Ankush Narang. Following criticism directed at the AAP by Danish, Narang accused her of aligning with the BJP. Danish retaliated with a counter-remark referencing party defections, sparking yet another wave of disruptions.
Addressing the media following the adjournment, Mayor Wahi confirmed that the disruptive conduct of the involved members has been formally referred to the House disciplinary committee.
"If the committee recommends suspension, we will go ahead with that as well," Mayor Wahi stated, emphasizing that strict administrative measures will be enforced to maintain decorum in future civic proceedings.
