Security Forces Bust Terrorist Cave Hideout in J&K's Poonch, Recover IEDs and Ammunition
Security forces have uncovered a natural cave hideout in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, recovering six IEDs and a cache of arms in a major counter-terror operation.

Major Counter-Terror Breakthrough in Poonch
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have successfully dismantled a major terror plot following the discovery of a natural cave hideout in the Kasblari area of Mendhar, located within the Poonch district. The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant cache of explosives and military-grade equipment.
Acting on precise intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movements, security personnel launched an intensive cordon-and-search operation in the dense forest terrain of the region.
Recovery of Explosives and Hardware
During the sweep of the area, troops located the concealed natural cave utilized by anti-national elements as a tactical operational base. A thorough search of the subterranean hideout led to the recovery of:
* Six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) packed in brown tape-insulated containers * One 7.62mm Light Machine Gun (LMG) magazine * A combat pouch and a black tactical bag * Aluminium containers and power adapters with power sources * A tiffin box suspected to be intended for conversion into an improvised explosive device
According to defense analysts at Daily News 365, the presence of specialized containers and power sources indicates that the hideout was being prepared for assembling high-impact explosive devices aimed at disrupting peace in the region.
Changing Terror Tactics in the Region
Senior security officials briefed on the operation noted a distinct tactical shift in how Pakistan-sponsored terrorist networks are operating in the Union Territory. With local residents increasingly refusing to provide shelter, logistics, or information to insurgents, hostile elements have grown heavily reliant on isolated natural formations deep within dense forest cover.
"These cave hideouts provide natural camouflage, helping terrorists evade aerial and ground surveillance while maintaining a secure space to plan hostile actions," a senior security officer stated on condition of anonymity.
The successful operation underscores the continued vigilance and operational readiness of security forces operating along the frontier districts of Jammu and Kashmir, neutralizing threats before they can materialize into active attacks.
