Swift Police Action Following Public Outcry

Tripura Police have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) in connection with a widely circulated video that allegedly shows a teenager from the state being subjected to racial slurs and harassment. The development comes in the wake of widespread public condemnation and urgent demands for legal intervention.

Director General of Police (DGP) GS Rao briefed reporters on the ongoing investigation, revealing that the contentious footage came to official notice during Wednesday afternoon. Recognizing the gravity of the matter, DGP Rao immediately established direct communication with the Special Commissioner of Police overseeing the Special Police Unit for the North Eastern Region in New Delhi, alongside the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police.

"Accordingly, we have registered an FIR on this incident with all relevant sections of law," DGP Rao stated during the media briefing.

Inter-State Investigation and Identification

To ensure a rigorous and thorough probe, a specialized team of Tripura Police traveled to the national capital to coordinate directly with their Delhi Police counterparts. Authorities have confirmed that Delhi Police have extended complete cooperation to facilitate the swift handling of the case.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the video in question was recorded approximately a month and a half ago in Ahmedabad. Investigators have successfully identified the primary individual seen in the footage, as well as the person responsible for uploading and circulating the video across social media platforms.

"We will take action legally, whatever is required, against the people involved in this incident," DGP Rao affirmed, emphasizing zero tolerance for racial discrimination and harassment against individuals from the Northeast.

Growing Concerns Over Racial Discrimination

The incident has reignited nationwide discussions concerning the safety, dignity, and protection of citizens from the Northeast residing, studying, or working in other parts of the country. Civil society groups and student organizations have stepped up calls for stringent enforcement of anti-discrimination laws and heightened vigilance by law enforcement agencies across metropolitan centers.
