UP School Van Driver Arrested After 8-Year-Old Class 3 Student Crushed to Death in Prayagraj
An eight-year-old girl studying in Class 3 was tragically killed after being run over by her school van outside her Prayagraj residence.

Tragedy Strikes Outside Residence
An eight-year-old girl studying in Class 3 at Delhi Public School (DPS) lost her life in a tragic accident on Thursday afternoon after being run over by her school van outside her home in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The victim, identified as Tasvani Udayanshi Pathak, was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
According to eyewitnesses and local reports, the incident occurred at approximately 1:45 pm when the private school van arrived at the family's residence to drop the child home. Tasvani, who lived with her grandparents, got out of the vehicle and moved toward the rear to retrieve her school bag.
Driver Detained Following Public Outcry
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver reversed the vehicle without confirming that the child had moved to a safe distance. Tasvani became trapped between the van and the boundary wall of her house, sustaining critical injuries. The entire sequence of events was caught on a nearby CCTV camera.
Frightened screams from other children inside the vehicle alerted family members and local residents, who rushed to the scene and pulled the girl from beneath the vehicle. Bystanders intercepted the driver as he allegedly attempted to flee the scene and handed him over to the local police.
DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav confirmed that both the driver and the vehicle have been taken into custody. A formal investigation is currently underway, and the other children aboard the van were safely transported to their respective homes in an alternate vehicle.
Community Concerns Over Student Transport Safety
The incident has reignited serious concerns regarding the safety protocols and regulatory oversight of private school transport providers operating across urban and semi-urban residential areas. Local authorities have emphasized that rigorous checks and stricter adherence to safety standards are imperative to prevent such preventable tragedies.
