Epic Games Launches AI Mega Jam Offering Rs 47 Lakh in Grants for Developers
Epic Games has announced its 2026 AI Mega Jam, offering up to Rs 47 lakh in cash prizes and development grants for creators building games with AI and Unreal Engine.

Epic Games Embraces Artificial Intelligence with New Developer Competition
Epic Games has announced the launch of its 2026 AI Mega Jam, a high-profile four-day development competition offering up to Rs 47 lakh ($50,000) in total grants and cash prizes. The event challenges developers to leverage artificial intelligence alongside the company's industry-standard tools to build functional video games.
Kicking off on November 12, the intensive four-day challenge invites participants to work in teams of up to five humans alongside unlimited AI agents. Competitors will build playable titles utilizing Unreal Engine or the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
The competition permits the integration of virtually any AI tool into the development pipeline, spanning everything from procedural asset generation to advanced coding agents. Organizers intend for the jam to push the boundaries of rapid prototyping and creative implementation.
Event Structure and Hybrid Participation
The jam operates as a hybrid event, accommodating remote participants from around the globe as well as local game development communities. Additionally, an in-person hub will operate in San Francisco on November 14 and 15 at Digital Jungle.
Organizers confirmed that physical participants in San Francisco will work alongside specialized developer teams from major artificial intelligence and technology firms, including OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Meshy.
Epic Games has structured the prize pool and funding tiers to support both immediate creative output and long-term project viability:
- First-Place Prize (Rs 7 lakh / $7,500): Awarded to the top overall submissions across Unreal Engine and UEFN categories. - Student Prize (Rs 7 lakh / $7,500): Dedicated recognition and funding for the best student-led team submission. - Continuation Grants (Up to Rs 47 lakh / $50,000): Major financial backing awarded to standout projects, allowing creators to transition prototypes into full-scale commercial production.
Navigating the Industry's AI Pivot
The Mega Jam aligns with a broader strategic shift toward artificial intelligence championed by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney. Addressing industry critics on social media, Sweeney defended the company's aggressive integration of automated tools, emphasizing that the objective is not downsizing workforce numbers.
Instead, Sweeney characterized the pivot as an essential adaptation to modern technological demands, providing creators with the capabilities necessary to scale production and enhance content quality. He noted that the transition is designed to help developers survive the rapid evolution of the sector by accelerating code and content generation.
"Our job, as the provider of tools and technology to much of the industry, is to design for the present that is and the future that will soon be," Sweeney stated, expressing optimism regarding the empowerment of creators through advanced machine learning technologies.
