Four Men Stand Trial in UK Over Drugged Wife Abuse Case
Four men are on trial at Winchester Crown Court after a UK woman was allegedly drugged and advertised online for sexual abuse by her former husband.

High-Profile Trial Opens at Winchester Crown Court
A major criminal trial has commenced at the Winchester Crown Court in the United Kingdom, involving four men accused of raping or sexually assaulting a woman whose former husband allegedly drugged, filmed, and advertised her online without her consent.
The defendants—identified as Norman Macksoni (48), Richard Wilkins (62), Connor Sanderson-Doyle (32), and Mohammed Hassan (38)—have all entered not-guilty pleas to the charges against them. The alleged offenses span a seven-year period between 2016 and 2023.
Prosecutor Sarah Jones KC opened the proceedings by framing the central issue of the trial: whether an individual can reasonably engage in sexual activity with an unknown woman without first establishing clear consent.
The victim, Joanne Young, has formally waived her legal right to anonymity. Her former husband, Philip Young (50), previously entered guilty pleas earlier this year to a staggering array of severe sexual offenses committed against her over more than a decade.
The Husband's Systematic Abuse and Online Advertising
According to the prosecution, Philip Young regularly administered substances to his then-wife to render her deeply disoriented and unaware of her surroundings. He allegedly posted explicit images and descriptions of her—often blindfolded and restrained—on various platforms, including Craigslist, Grindr, and online swinging forums, to attract strangers to their home.
"He presented it as a kink for both of them, but there was no information from Joanne herself to support that," Jones told the court. Evidence presented indicated that Philip Young had actively sought out sedatives since 2015 capable of inducing a deep, amnestic sleep.
While Joanne had reportedly consented to being restrained and blindfolded during private, consensual activities with her husband, prosecutors emphasized there was no evidence whatsoever that she agreed to sexual encounters with outside parties.
The elaborate scheme unraveled in 2023 when an online account linked to Philip Young posted illicit material involving bestiality. This triggered a police investigation, leading to the seizure of multiple electronic devices that contained explicit video evidence of various men assaulting Joanne.
Extensive Guilty Pleas From Former Husband
Philip Young, a former local councillor, has admitted to a horrifying catalogue of crimes against his former wife spanning 13 years. His guilty pleas include 11 counts of rape, 14 counts of voyeurism, 11 counts of administering a substance with intent, seven counts of assault by penetration, four counts of sexual assault, and one count of publishing an obscene article.
Furthermore, court documents reveal he published over 500 intimate images and videos of Joanne without her consent between 2010 and 2024.
The ongoing trial involving the four co-defendants is expected to last up to four weeks as the jury evaluates the extensive digital and testimonial evidence presented by the prosecution.
