GE Aerospace to Deliver 3,200 Engines to India Over Next Decade, Citing Rapid Aviation Expansion
GE Aerospace South Asia CEO Vikram Rai announced the delivery of over 3,200 engines to India over the next decade, highlighting surging domestic passenger traffic.

India at the Forefront of Aviation Technology
India is rapidly becoming a global epicentre for next-generation aviation technology and manufacturing, according to Vikram Rai, CEO of GE Aerospace, South Asia. Speaking at a prominent industry leadership summit, Rai emphasized that the aviation sector is at a defining juncture regarding the evolution of future jet engines.
While addressing leaders and experts, Rai reflected on the resilience of the global aviation industry, noting that it has consistently emerged stronger from historical disruptions ranging from geopolitical crises to the global pandemic. He underscored that behind every commercial flight lies a complex global network of engineers and manufacturers operating under rigorous safety standards.
"At GE Aerospace, safety is our topmost priority. We don't compete on safety," Rai stated, highlighting the uncompromising commitment required in aerospace engineering.
Explosive Growth in India's Aviation Sector
Highlighting the exponential growth trajectory of the country, Rai pointed to substantial government infrastructure spending and a massive surge in passenger traffic. Domestic airlines generated approximately $19 billion in revenue during the fiscal year 2026.
Furthermore, domestic passenger traffic has scaled to 340 million, with industry projections estimating an unprecedented rise to 2.1 billion passengers by 2040. To meet this massive demand, GE Aerospace has committed to delivering over 3,200 commercial engines to the region over the next nine to 10 years.
Four Pillars of Partnership
Addressing supply chain vulnerabilities and geopolitical uncertainties, Rai stressed that industrial resilience relies on deep engineering capabilities, robust manufacturing infrastructure, skilled talent, and long-term strategic partnerships.
GE Aerospace's deep-rooted collaboration in the country rests on these four core pillars. Highlighting the company's footprint, Rai pointed to its advanced technology centre in Bengaluru—established in 2000 as the company's first outside the United States—which has generated over 1,000 patents and is currently spearheading next-generation hybrid-electric engine initiatives.
In addition to engineering design, the company continues to expand its manufacturing and operational footprint. Through its joint venture CFM International, GE Aerospace is actively assisting carriers like IndiGo in setting up comprehensive engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities domestically.
Concluded by Gaurav Sen for Daily News 365, these strategic moves reaffirm the multinational giant's long-term confidence in India's expanding aerospace and manufacturing ecosystem.
