Indian Embassy Confirms All 14 Nationals Safe Following Yacht Incident Off Yemen Coast
The Indian Embassy in Yemen has confirmed that all 14 Indian nationals aboard a yacht attacked near the Bab el-Mandeb strait are safe and located in Hodeidah.

Diplomatic Confirmation Follows Red Sea Maritime Security Alert
MUMBAI — The Indian Embassy in Yemen has confirmed that all 14 Indian nationals aboard a yacht involved in a recent maritime incident off the Yemeni coast are safe and accounted for.
The confirmation comes following a tense security situation that unfolded near Jabal Zuqar island, situated close to the strategic Bab el-Mandeb strait at the southern mouth of the Red Sea.
Incident Overview and Regional Tensions
Earlier reports indicated that a vessel carrying the 14 Indian sailors had come under attack. Yemen's Houthi movement stated that they were involved in rescuing the boat, while simultaneously placing blame on Saudi Arabia for the initial assault. Saudi authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the incident.
In an official update posted on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy stated: "Reports suggest that all 14 Indian nationals are safe and located around Hodeidah in Yemen. We will continue to work for ensuring their well being."
Prior to confirming their safety, diplomatic missions had scrambled to establish communication and verify the precise circumstances surrounding the vessel's plight.
Vulnerability of Indian Seafarers in Conflict Zones
India remains the world's third-largest supplier of global seafarers, with upwards of 300,000 maritime professionals crewing international commercial fleets. The wider West Asian maritime corridor has become increasingly hazardous amid ongoing regional conflicts.
Government data indicates that over a dozen Indian sailors have tragically lost their lives, with several others reported missing in the Gulf and Red Sea sectors since regional hostilities escalated.
Daily News 365 will continue to track diplomatic efforts by the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safe repatriation of the crew members involved.
