Indian-Origin Man Arrested for Wife's Murder in US After Faking ICE Kidnapping Claim
A Sacramento man who blamed immigration agents for his wife's disappearance has been arrested and charged with her murder following an investigation.

Sacramento Murder Investigation Uncovers Elaborate Deception
A 28-year-old Indian-origin man in California has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, after initially attempting to mislead investigators by claiming immigration enforcement agents had abducted her.
The victim, 30-year-old Jasmine Gill originally from India, was last seen at the couple's Sacramento residence on September 30. Her disappearance was officially reported four days later by her concerned cousin.
During the initial phases of the missing persons inquiry, her husband, Gurinder Gill, spun a false narrative to detectives. He asserted that agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had detained his wife while she was checking the mail outside their home.
However, law enforcement quickly unraveled the fabrication. Detectives reached out to ICE officials, who confirmed that no enforcement operations or detentions had taken place at the couple's address during the stated timeframe.
A Contentious Custody Battle
According to an official statement released by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, the investigation rapidly shifted focus as authorities uncovered glaring discrepancies in the husband's timeline and statements.
"As the investigation progressed, the detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder's statements about his wife's disappearance. Detectives learned that Jasmine and Gurinder were engaged in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute," the Sheriff's Office stated.
Tragically, the investigation took a grim turn when burned human remains were discovered on October 1 in El Dorado County. Forensic analysis later confirmed the remains belonged to Jasmine Gill.
Armed with accumulating evidence, homicide detectives secured an arrest warrant for Gurinder Gill. He was taken into custody on October 14 and is currently being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Official Response and Family Tragedy
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency strongly condemned the suspect's attempt to use the agency as a scapegoat for his alleged crime.
"These maniacs will attempt to scapegoat the brave men and women of ICE, who work around the clock to remove dangerous criminals, meanwhile they themselves commit criminal acts," the agency stated via social media.
Meanwhile, Jasmine’s grieving family has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help repatriate her body back to India. Family members remembered her as a devoted nurse, a loving mother to an 8-month-old baby boy, and a dedicated daughter who was striving to build a safe, independent future.
"Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of her story is that she was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby. She was seeking a divorce. She was trying to find the freedom, safety, and fresh start they both deserved," her family shared on the fundraiser page.
