Dramatic Rescue Unfolds in Queensland

A routine news assignment turned into a life-or-death rescue operation in Australia when a journalist and a local bystander leapt into dangerous floodwaters to save a motorist whose car was rapidly sinking.

The incident occurred on Buchanan Road in Morayfield, located north of Brisbane, amid severe weather conditions and heavy rainfall. According to eyewitness accounts and local emergency reports, a driver attempted to drive his vehicle through deep floodwaters at speed, causing the engine to stall and the car to begin submerging.

Quick Action Prevents Tragedy

Among those covering the severe weather was a field reporter who witnessed the vehicle become stranded. Recognizing the immediate peril, the journalist handed his mobile phone to his camera operator after calling emergency services and waded directly into the fast-moving water.

He was quickly joined by Daniel Hainey, a local resident who was out with his family when he saw the unfolding emergency.

Approaching the sinking vehicle, the rescuers discovered that the driver's side door was jammed shut as water levels inside the cabin continued to rise. Shifting tactics, the two men positioned themselves on the opposite side of the car, leveraging their weight and footing against the vehicle's body to pry the door open and safely extract the trapped motorist.

Narrow Escape

Authorities noted the extreme urgency of the rescue, observing that the vehicle completely vanished beneath the murky floodwaters mere minutes after the driver was pulled to safety.

Emergency services arrived at the scene roughly ten minutes after the rescue concluded to evaluate the motorist and document the incident. The driver, visibly shaken and relieved, expressed profound gratitude to his rescuers, admitting that he had severely misjudged the depth of the water before attempting to cross the flooded roadway.

Camera operators and first responders praised the combined efforts of the reporter and the bystander, confirming that their rapid intervention averted a potential fatality amidst the region's severe weather crisis.
