National Interest And Global Good Go Hand In Hand: EAM S Jaishankar Outlines India's Diplomatic Strategy
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that India serves its national interests by actively contributing to the global good through cultural and developmental initiatives.

Bridging National Strategy with Global Welfare
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has asserted that a nation's domestic interests and its contributions to global welfare are mutually reinforcing rather than contradictory. Speaking at a prominent international policy forum, Jaishankar articulated a vision of foreign policy where cultural diplomacy, sustainable agriculture, and technological collaboration serve as core pillars of international engagement.
Responding to queries regarding India's growing soft power and spiritual footprint abroad, the minister noted that countries can successfully build robust bilateral and multilateral friendships well beyond traditional frameworks of conventional politics, military alliances, or conflict.
"To my mind, doing good and serving your national interest are not alternatives. We serve our national interest by contributing to global good," Jaishankar stated during the session.
Expanding Soft Power Beyond Politics
Highlighting the resonance of India's cultural heritage, discussions at the summit touched upon the widespread popularity of yoga, Vedanta, and spiritual traditions across Western nations. Jaishankar pointed to the International Day of Yoga as a prime example of how cultural practices can elevate a nation's global profile and foster cross-border goodwill.
However, the External Affairs Minister stressed that India's outreach extends significantly deeper into developmental and ecological domains, directly addressing shared global challenges such as food security and climate change.
Millets, Solar Energy, and Disaster Resilience
Expanding on practical global initiatives, Jaishankar cited the International Year of Millets as a successful model of agricultural diplomacy. The campaign not only revived domestic awareness of the nutrient-rich, climate-friendly grain within India but also found a powerful echo across the African continent.
"When I go out of India, I've seen the millets message resonate very strongly in Africa, because they had a very strong millets culture that was overshadowed by grains and cereals coming from elsewhere," Jaishankar explained.
The minister also underscored the impact of collective environmental frameworks, such as the International Solar Alliance, which has accelerated the adoption of renewable energy technology and technical support worldwide. Furthermore, he emphasized the critical need for collaborative disaster response mechanisms as extreme climate events escalate globally.
Through these multifaceted initiatives—spanning wellness, sustainable nutrition, renewable energy, and crisis preparedness—India continues to position itself as a constructive partner committed to addressing pressing global vulnerabilities.
