GIFT City and IIM Bangalore Launch National Finance Olympiad 2026 for Postgraduate Students
GIFT City and IIM Bangalore have partnered to launch the GIFT Finance Olympiad 2026, inviting postgraduate students to solve real-world financial challenges.

Bridging Academia and Financial Markets
GIFT City has joined forces with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) to announce the launch of the GIFT Finance Olympiad, National Student Case Challenge 2026. Designed specifically for postgraduate students, the national competition aims to foster practical, evidence-based solutions to real-world challenges currently faced by the GIFT International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC).
Organised in collaboration with IIM Bangalore's Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management, the initiative also serves as a major precursor event leading up to the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.
Structure and Eligibility
The competition is open to postgraduate students across any academic discipline at recognised institutions throughout India. To encourage cross-functional problem-solving, participants are required to form multidisciplinary teams consisting of four members.
The tournament is structured across three distinct phases:
* Stage One: An online case challenge with a final submission deadline set for October 31, 2026. * Regional Finals: Shortlisted teams will compete in regional rounds across Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai throughout November and early December. * Grand Finale: Finalists will present comprehensive policy and strategic recommendations to an expert panel.
Focus Areas and Evaluation
Participating teams will tackle complex problem statements across two primary pillars:
1. Financial Market and Product Development: This includes structural innovations such as single-stock futures tailored for global investors. 2. Institutional Strategy and Governance: Focusing on regulatory frameworks and strategic partnerships between global exchanges.
Submissions will undergo rigorous evaluation based on analytical depth, practical implementation feasibility, and an understanding of market trade-offs. While participants are permitted to utilise artificial intelligence tools during their research and drafting phases, transparent disclosure of AI usage remains mandatory.
Through this nationwide challenge, organisers aim to deepen student engagement with modern financial markets, regulatory frameworks, and institutional operations while generating innovative governance and product ideas to strengthen GIFT IFSC's standing as a premier global financial hub.
