The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has suspended a junior engineer following the unauthorized demolition of an animal welfare shelter.

Administrative Action Follows Viral Social Media Outcry
NEW DELHI — The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended a junior engineer following the controversial and alleged unauthorized demolition of an under-construction animal shelter. The site, managed by animal welfare activist Jagriti Mishra who operates the Street Worldz Trust, was reportedly torn down without prior statutory notice, triggering widespread attention across digital platforms.
The incident came to light after Mishra, who commands a significant social media following and actively documents her animal rescue operations, shared video documentation of the confrontation. The footage captured the immediate aftermath of the partial demolition at the construction site, highlighting significant property damage and financial setbacks.
Official Intervention and Financial Compensation
Following the public outcry, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta personally met with Mishra to review the situation. During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured comprehensive administrative support and announced a compensation grant of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to cover the financial losses incurred during the incident.
In addition to the financial relief, the administration initiated formal punitive and investigative measures. An official inquiry has been ordered specifically targeting the conduct of Junior Engineer Vikas Kumar Gupta, culminating in his subsequent suspension by the MCD.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister directed local law enforcement officials to register a formal complaint against individuals accused of attempting to intimidate the activist. The District Magistrate's office has also been instructed to provide active logistical assistance to help Mishra re-establish the animal shelter facilities.
Political Reactions and Assurances
As the controversy drew intense political scrutiny, local representatives stepped in to clarify positions regarding the unauthorized construction dispute. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Jarnail Singh visited the site to meet with Mishra, explicitly distancing the political organization from allegations that a party affiliate had demanded bribes concerning the construction project. Singh reiterated the party's backing for community welfare initiatives.
Daily News 365 will continue to monitor the ongoing administrative inquiry and the progress of the animal shelter's reconstruction.
