Gurugram Municipal Corporation Unveils Major Lighting Project to Enhance Nighttime Road Safety
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has announced plans to install nearly 2,500 new streetlights across 19 major roads to curb accidents and improve visibility.

Enhancing Urban Infrastructure
In a decisive move to bolster pedestrian safety and mitigate the hazards of nighttime driving, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has launched a comprehensive infrastructure initiative. Authorities have finalized a blueprint to install 2,480 new streetlights spanning 19 critical urban corridors.
The project comes in response to growing concerns regarding inadequate illumination on key thoroughfares, which has historically contributed to vehicular accidents and commuter distress after dark.
Phased Implementation Strategy
According to senior municipal officials, the installation campaign will be executed in a structured manner. The first phase will see the deployment of 2,050 specialized lights along sidewalks to protect pedestrians, alongside 430 lights positioned on central verges to guide vehicular traffic.
Progress on the ground is already underway. Municipal teams have successfully completed the installation of sidewalk lighting along the heavily trafficked Medanta Road stretch.
Key Corridors Identified
The extensive lighting plan targets several of the city's most vital traffic arteries. Footpath illumination is scheduled for multiple key routes, including:
* HUDA City Centre to Signature Chowk * Golf Course Extension Road * Bakhtawar Singh Chowk * Bakhtawar Chowk to Medanta traffic light * Hero Honda Chowk to Bakhtawar Chowk * The connecting route between Mayfield Garden and SPR Road * Sohna Road from Park Hospital to Mayfield Garden * Dharam Marg
Additionally, central verge lighting will be installed across multiple crucial sector-dividing networks, encompassing Sector Dividing Roads 45-46, 45-53, 51-52-57, 53-56, 44-52, 51-52, 45-48, 51-46, and Gurugram University Road.
Public Consultation and Next Steps
Demonstrating a citizen-centric approach, the municipal administration has invited local residents and resident welfare associations to report additional dark spots and unlit streets that were omitted from the initial deployment phase.
Officials confirmed that these community-sourced recommendations will be thoroughly evaluated for integration into a prospective second phase of the urban lighting overhaul.
