Investigation Deepens in Bollywood Security Threat

MUMBAI — The ongoing investigation into the recent shooting targeting actor Tiger Shroff has revealed chilling new details about the conspirators' operational blueprint. According to law enforcement officials, the individuals responsible for procuring and transporting the firearms used in the attack were under strict instructions to smuggle the weapons back to the national capital once the operation concluded.

Four suspects—identified as Sumit, Kunal, Radha, and Babita—were apprehended in Delhi and Haryana last week. A local court has extended their police custody until October 28 as the Mumbai Crime Branch digs deeper into the sprawling criminal enterprise.

The Failed Weapon Retrieval Plan

Investigators disclosed that Kunal, the Haryana-based operative who allegedly acquired the firearm, received explicit directives from his handlers to retrieve the pistol and remaining ammunition post-attack. Kunal subsequently relayed these orders to his accomplices.

However, as police pressure mounted rapidly following the high-profile nature of the incident, the conspirators panicked. Instead of executing the return to Delhi, the group abruptly dumped the weapons in Surat, Gujarat, before scattering to evade capture.

Authorities suspect the original plan was to dismantle or destroy the weapons back in Delhi to completely sever the chain of evidence and throw investigators off their trail. Despite these efforts, the Mumbai Crime Branch successfully recovered critical digital evidence from the mobile phones of the detained suspects, including voice notes detailing instructions to dispose of the hardware.

Targeting Bollywood's Elite

The alarming attack occurred last week when Tiger Shroff—son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff—was leaving a football facility in Juhu, Mumbai, in his BMW. Two assailants opened fire on the vehicle, injuring a bystander who had gathered near the entrance. Surveillance footage from the scene captured one of the attackers pointing directly at the passenger seat where Shroff was seated, though the firearm reportedly jammed, averting a potential tragedy.

Anil Pandit, claiming affiliation with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the assault. The purported motive targets anyone seen associating with actor Salman Khan.

A Shift in Targets

Interrogations of the 11 total suspects arrested in connection with the wider conspiracy reveal that Shroff was not the primary target. Investigators state that the syndicate initially conducted extensive surveillance on the residences of major Bollywood figures, including Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Akshay Kumar, with Salman Khan remaining the primary objective.

However, due to tight security and logistics—such as Aamir Khan maintaining a low profile and spending extended periods working outside the city—the operatives found it exceedingly difficult to strike their primary targets. Consequently, the syndicate pivoted to Shroff, noting his frequent public appearances without heavy security details, making him a more vulnerable target.
