Winter Chill Sets In After Sudden Downpour

Delhi experienced a definitive shift in its weather pattern as incessant overnight rain lashed the national capital, introducing an unmistakable nip to the air and signaling the early onset of winter. Late-night visuals from key transit and academic hubs, including Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and the Jamia Millia Islamia vicinity, captured rain-slicked thoroughfares under heavy cloud cover.

The sudden spell of precipitation triggered a notable drop in minimum temperatures across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), effectively altering the seasonal transition and bringing relief from lingering autumnal warmth.

Air Quality Sees Marked Improvement

The unseasonal downpour delivered an immediate positive impact on the region's air quality. According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI), which hovered above the 200 mark in the 'Poor' category through Wednesday and Thursday, dropped sharply to 133, placing it firmly in the 'Moderate' category.

IMD Forecast and Regional Weather Outlook

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) previously issued a yellow alert for Delhi and adjoining NCR districts, forecasting intermittent spells of rain and localized thunderstorms. Widespread meteorological activity spanned the capital alongside neighboring Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi, skies are expected to remain generally cloudy with occasional light to moderate showers and lightning strikes before clearing up heading into early November. The IMD anticipates skies to turn partly cloudy by October 31, clearing entirely by November 1 and 2 to establish stable, fair weather conditions across all districts.

National Weather Disruptions

Beyond the capital, a remnant cyclonic circulation continues to drive intense precipitation across central and eastern India. The IMD has flagged low-to-moderate flash flood risks across vulnerable watersheds in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, southern peninsular states are bracing for an escalation in weather activity early next month as a Bay of Bengal system approaches, threatening heavy downpours and gusty winds in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.
