Industrial Blaze Erupts in Coastal Andhra Pradesh

A massive fire broke out at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) refinery located in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, following a series of sudden explosion sounds reported from within the industrial facility. The incident triggered immediate concern among residents living in nearby neighborhoods as thick plumes of black smoke billowed high into the sky.

According to preliminary assessments from the facility, the fire originated at a sulphur pitch tank within the sprawling refinery complex. Dramatic visuals captured from vantage points across the city showed a towering column of raging flames accompanied by dense, dark smoke.

Situation Under Control, Says Police

Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi moved swiftly to calm public anxieties, confirming that the blaze has been strictly contained to the specific sulphur pitch tank where it started. Authorities assured the public that the fire poses no immediate threat to other critical sections or processing units of the refinery.

"The situation is being closely monitored, and the fire is localized," officials noted, emphasizing that the heavy smoke generated by the burning sulphur pitch is not currently considered hazardous to the general population.

Emergency Response and Operations

Specialized firefighting teams from HPCL, alongside local disaster management units, rushed to the scene. Fire tenders were deployed in a coordinated effort to douse the flames and cool the surrounding structures.

As of the latest reports, firefighting and cooling operations are actively ongoing. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far, and a comprehensive inquiry will be initiated to determine the exact cause of the initial blast and subsequent fire.
