Investigation Underway After Grim Discovery in Kalkaji

NEW DELHI — Local law enforcement in southeast Delhi made a grim discovery on Sunday after unsealing a residential apartment in the Kalkaji neighborhood, where the decomposed body of a 45-year-old woman was found.

According to senior police officials, authorities were alerted to the premises following complaints from neighbors regarding a persistent, foul odor emanating from the flat. The residence, located in Govindpuri Extension, had reportedly remained locked from the inside for approximately eight to ten days.

Police and Forensic Teams Secure the Scene

Upon receiving the distress call, a joint team comprising local police personnel, fire service staff, and a specialized crime scene investigation unit rushed to the location. To ensure procedural transparency, officials confirmed that the entire operation to break open the apartment's door was thoroughly videographed.

Upon entry, investigators located the remains of the victim, identified as Sona, who lived entirely alone in the apartment. Her body was found lying on the floor in an advanced state of decomposition.

Initial Findings and Next Steps

Preliminary assessments conducted at the scene revealed no immediate indications of forced entry, struggle, or overt criminal activity. However, authorities emphasized that a definitive cause of death cannot be established until forensic evaluations are complete.

The remains have been transferred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) mortuary, where a comprehensive post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place. Meanwhile, local authorities are coordinating efforts to contact the victim's immediate family, including a sister reported to reside in Kolkata, to apprise them of the tragic development as the investigation continues.
