Barefoot Saree Runner Kavita Falls Short of Selection Despite Blistering 1,600m Run in Jharkhand Recruitment
Viral barefoot runner Kavita cleared the 1,600-metre recruitment race in Jharkhand with time to spare, but her selection journey ended at the high jump.

A Journey of Resilience Ends in Heartbreak
Kavita, the widowed mother of two from Jharkhand's Ramgarh district who captured national attention by running a trial race barefoot in a traditional saree, saw her hopes of securing a government recruitment job dashed during the formal physical testing phase. While her exceptional endurance on the track once again stunned onlookers, the rigorous multi-stage testing process ultimately proved an insurmountable hurdle.
According to officials overseeing the recruitment drive, Kavita arrived at the testing venue carrying the hopes of her family and an army of social media supporters. Her primary identifier for the day was roll number 238 among a pool of 930 female aspirants vying for selection.
The Track Triumph
Demonstrating the same gritty determination that made her an internet sensation earlier this month, Kavita took to the 1,600-metre running track. Despite lacking professional athletic footwear due to severe financial constraints, she powered through the distance, crossing the finish line in an impressive 8 minutes and 57 seconds.
Her time was comfortably well ahead of the mandatory 10-minute deadline set by authorities, reaffirming the athletic capability that first brought her to public prominence during a trial run organized by the Ankit Running Academy at the Sido-Kanhu district ground.
Stumbling at the High Jump
Despite her commanding performance on the track, the recruitment test format required candidates to clear multiple physical disciplines to qualify. Having successfully navigated the running phase, Kavita advanced to the high jump event.
Under the rules of the examination, candidates were granted three distinct attempts to clear the required bar height. Despite her best efforts, Kavita was unable to successfully cross the threshold during her allotted turns. Consequently, she was officially declared unsuccessful in the broader recruitment process.
Overcoming Hardships
Kavita’s journey has been defined by immense personal trials. Following the death of her husband a few years ago, she assumed sole responsibility for the care of her two young children and her elderly in-laws. Securing a stable government job represented a vital pathway toward financial independence and long-term security for her dependents.
Her plight drew widespread sympathy and subsequent financial support from citizens across the country after photographs and videos of her barefoot trial run circulated widely online. While the recruitment outcome did not yield the employment milestone she sought, Kavita's determination has left an indelible mark, spotlighting the extraordinary efforts made by candidates from underprivileged backgrounds striving to break the cycle of economic hardship.
