Major Curricular Overhaul for 2028 Batches

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially rolled out a comprehensive revision of the Scheme of Studies for Class 10 board examinations, slated for the 2028 academic cycle. The updated framework applies directly to students who enter Class 9 during the 2026-27 academic session and progress to Class 10 the following year.

According to the official board notification, the structural modifications are designed to streamline the curriculum and seamlessly integrate interdisciplinary learning frameworks as mandated by educational policy schedules.

Subjects and Modules Removed from the Curriculum

Under the revised guidelines, several distinct curricular components will be phased out for the targeted batches. The board has confirmed the removal of the following subjects and specialized modules:

- Individuals in Society - Specialized modules of Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Environmental Education

Despite these exclusions, students will maintain a robust academic workload consisting of nine compulsory subjects. These include three distinct languages, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Art Education, Physical Education and Well-being, and Vocational Education. Additionally, students retain the flexibility to select one additional optional subject.

Assessment Structure and Vocational Requirements

Under the updated examination framework, the mandatory board assessments will cover five core subjects: Language R1, Language R2, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.

Furthermore, students can opt to appear for board examinations in elective domains such as Advanced Mathematics, Advanced Science, or a designated skill subject based on their academic inclinations.

Vocational Education remains a mandatory component of the curriculum. Students are required to choose either the 'Kaushal Vikas' track or one of the 22 specialized skill subjects formally notified by the CBSE. Assessment pathways differ based on this selection: Kaushal Vikas will be evaluated internally at the school level, whereas students opting for specialized skill subjects must clear an external board examination.

To successfully clear Class 10 under the revised guidelines, students must secure a minimum of 33% marks in each of the five compulsory board examination subjects. The board has clarified that the existing assessment scheme will remain operational for students currently enrolled in Class 10 during the 2026-27 academic year.
