Indian Railways Opens Applications for 1,265 Station Master Posts

Indian Railways has officially commenced the recruitment process for 1,265 Station Master positions nationwide. Eligible graduates can now submit their applications through the unified official recruitment portal.

This extensive recruitment drive is part of the national transporter's ongoing initiative to strengthen its operational workforce and create employment opportunities. In a notable procedural change, the Railway Board has announced that Station Master recruitment will be formally notified as a separate category starting from the 2026 cycle.

Regional Vacancy Breakdown

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) in Mumbai has reported the highest concentration of openings with 177 vacancies. It is followed by the Jammu-Srinagar region with 122 vacancies and Chennai with 119 positions distributed across various railway divisions.

Important Schedule and Deadlines

Candidates planning to apply must take note of the critical dates released by the board:

- Application Opening Date: October 27, 2026 - Application Closing Date: November 25, 2026 (up to 11:59 PM) - Fee Payment Deadline: November 27, 2026 - Application Correction Window: November 28 to December 7, 2026

Applicants are strictly advised to review the comprehensive official recruitment notification regarding specific educational criteria, syllabus breakdowns, and regional vacancy distributions before final submission.

Strict Application Guidelines

Candidates are permitted to submit only a single application via the unified RRB web portal and must choose a single RRB jurisdiction. Officials have cautioned that submitting applications to multiple RRBs will lead to the outright rejection of all submitted forms, and candidates may face debarment from future examinations conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board or Railway Recruitment Cells.

Selection Procedure and Exam Pattern

The multi-stage selection process is structured to evaluate candidates rigorously through the following phases:

1. Single-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT) 2. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) 3. Document Verification 4. Medical Examination

The initial Computer-Based Test will span 120 minutes and consist of 100 objective-type questions tailored to standard academic requirements for the role. A negative marking scheme will be in effect, deducting one-third of a mark for every incorrect answer. Normalisation formulas will be applied to scores if the examination is conducted across multiple shifts. Shortlisting for the subsequent CBAT stage will strictly depend on normalised CBT scores and overall merit.
