Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Defends Mallikarjun Kharge's Controversial 'Baap' Remark Against PM Modi
Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has defended party chief Mallikarjun Kharge's contentious remark against PM Modi, calling it local metaphorical jargon.

Political Row Erupts Over Congress Chief's Comments
SHILLONG — Amidst a mounting political uproar over Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge's controversial "baap" jibe directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has stepped forward to defend the party chief. Chowdhury dismissed the escalating political controversy as a deliberate attempt by opponents to make "a mountain out of a molehill."
Understanding the Metaphor
Speaking to media persons, Chowdhury argued that Kharge's remark was entirely metaphorical, deeply rooted in regional local jargon, and was never intended to be interpreted literally.
"The government of our country, they always try to find a little hole anywhere. They know the art of making a mountain out of a molehill," Chowdhury stated. Clarifying the context of the statement, he added, "What our president said, it was metaphorically meant that even someone stronger than Modi will be defeated. This is a local jargon. That means someone may be stronger than Modi. It was used in a metaphorical manner; it does not mean father."
Origin of the Controversy
The political firestorm ignited during a public event in Patna, where Kharge was addressing an audience. Responding to a remark from an audience member who asserted that the Prime Minister would remain in power indefinitely, Kharge retorted, "Modi ka baap bhi jayega" (Even Modi's father will go).
The comment immediately drew sharp backlash from rival political parties, who accused the opposition leadership of stooping to personal attacks against the nation's leader. With Chowdhury's defense, the Congress party has sought to reframe the controversial phrasing as a colloquial figure of speech rather than a personal insult.
