Massive Clearance Operation in Dhubri

In a large-scale administrative operation, the Assam district administration carried out a massive eviction drive in the Alamganj area of Dhubri district, clearing approximately 750 families from government land. The operation targeted encroachments spanning 650 bighas of land in the Alamganj Ninth Block, which officials stated had been illegally occupied and settled for several years.

To execute the clearance, authorities deployed around 60 excavators alongside a heavy contingent of police personnel to maintain law and order throughout the area. Senior law enforcement and civil officials closely monitored the proceedings on-site, including Assam Police Inspector General of Law and Order Akhilesh Kumar Singh, Dhubri District Commissioner Dibakar Nath, and Senior Superintendent of Police Debashish Bora.

Tensions and Demolition of Structures

Tensions escalated during the operation as the heavy machinery was deployed to clear various structures, including local places of worship, mosques, and graveyards situated within the disputed territory. Residents gathered near the sites to voice their opposition, chanting slogans as authorities proceeded with the demolition of the settlements.

Scenes of grief and mourning were reported near local mausoleums and burial grounds, where residents offered final prayers before the heavy machinery cleared the land. The operation faced temporary disruption when one of the excavator operators reportedly fell ill just as a mausoleum was slated for clearance. The operator was promptly removed from the site and rushed for medical attention.

Official Stance and Next Steps

District authorities maintained that the operation was executed strictly in accordance with legal provisions regarding government land recovery. Officials emphasized that warnings and prior notices had been issued to the occupants regarding the unauthorized status of the settlements. The cleared land is slated to be secured by the district administration to prevent future unauthorized occupation.
