Chhattisgarh School Principal Sacked After Asaram-Related Booklets Distributed to Students
A government school principal in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district has been removed from his post after promotional booklets linked to convicted criminal Asaram were distributed to students.

Administrative Action Taken Following Parent Complaints
Authorities in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district have removed a government school principal from his post following the unauthorized distribution of booklets related to self-styled godman and convicted rapist Asaram to middle school students.
The incident took place at the Swami Atmanand Government English Medium School of Excellence in Raghunathpur village. According to officials, the controversial materials were handed over to young students on October 26 during a visit by followers of Asaram, which occurred in the presence of the school's principal, Mahesh Prajapati.
Inquiry Ordered by District Education Department
The matter came to light only after students brought the booklets home, prompting immediate concern and outrage among parents. Families lodged formal complaints with the local education department, criticizing the administration for allowing promotional materials linked to a convicted felon to reach children on school premises.
Responding swiftly to the public backlash, Balrampur District Education Officer Narendra Nirapure directed the Block Education Officer to conduct a thorough inquiry. Based on the preliminary findings of this investigation, Principal Mahesh Prajapati was stripped of his charge at the school, while broader inquiries into the event continue.
Nature of the Distributed Materials
Parents and local community members identified several titles among the distributed literature, including 'Sanskar Sarita', 'Vrat Niyam', and 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'. Critics pointed out that these publications aim to promote Asaram and maintain influence among his followers.
Furious parents underscored the gravity of the situation, noting that Asaram is currently serving multiple life imprisonment terms following convictions in severe criminal cases, including the rape of a minor in Jodhpur and a separate 2013 Gandhinagar rape case. Furthermore, several ashrams linked to him have been legally seized by state authorities.
Local authorities have reiterated that no literature or individuals associated with convicted criminals will be permitted to access educational institutions, and further administrative actions will be determined as the comprehensive investigation unfolds.
