Delhi Police Intervene After Domestic Dispute Halts Karwa Chauth Fasting Ritual
A routine festive celebration took an unusual turn in outer Delhi when a husband dialed emergency services after his wife refused to break her Karwa Chauth fast.

Domestic Dispute Prompts Emergency Response
Festive celebrations in the national capital took an unexpected turn when a local family dispute required direct intervention from law enforcement. Authorities in outer Delhi were forced to respond to an unusual distress call placed by a resident during the traditional observance of Karwa Chauth.
According to details shared by local law enforcement, the incident unfolded within the Shriram Colony area of Nihal Vihar. The husband, who reportedly returned home after an extended absence of nearly a year, engaged in a heated argument with his spouse.
The situation escalated when the wife, who had observed the traditional dawn-to-moonlight fast for her husband's longevity, allegedly refused to complete the final ritual of breaking the fast by looking at him.
Police Intervention and Resolution
Rather than attempting to resolve the marital disagreement privately, the husband contacted the police control room for assistance. Recognizing the domestic nature of the call, a deployment team from the Nihal Vihar police station—including senior personnel—was dispatched to the scene to assess the situation.
Officers spoke individually and jointly with both parties to de-escalate the tension. According to senior police officials, law enforcement counseling helped bridge the communication gap between the couple. The intervention ultimately yielded a peaceful resolution, with the woman completing the traditional rituals to break her fast.
