Expanding Digital Accessibility for Subscribers

In a major push toward citizen-centric digital governance, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday officially rolled out Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) services through WhatsApp. The initiative is designed to bring routine financial services directly to a familiar mobile platform, significantly reducing the need for subscribers to physically visit EPFO regional offices.

Under the newly launched verified WhatsApp service, registered EPF members can seamlessly access their provident fund balances, review their latest five financial transactions, and check detailed passbook information. Additionally, the platform provides personalized guidance and real-time assistance to help users complete requirements related to the Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana (PMRPY) and similar labor welfare programs.

Automated Settlement for Inoperative Accounts

Marking the 74th Foundation Day celebrations of the organization, Minister Mandaviya also announced the rollout of an automatic settlement system targeting eligible inoperative EPF accounts.

Under this new protocol, subscribers holding Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts with cumulative balances of up to Rs 1,000 will no longer be required to file individual, cumbersome manual claims. The EPFO will automatically initiate the settlement process following standard identity and bank-account verifications, directly routing the rightful dues to the beneficiaries. Authorities estimate that approximately one lakh accounts, involving a total corpus of Rs 5 crore, will be immediately cleared through this automated mechanism.

A Growing Institutional Milestone

During the celebratory address, the Union Minister reflected on the 74-year journey of the organization, emphasizing its evolution into a deeply trusted institution for India's formal workforce. He pointed out that the immense trust reposed in the EPFO is visibly underscored by its staggering Rs 32 lakh crore corpus, accumulated through continuous contributions from over 8 crore active members.

Highlighting the dedication of the workforce, Mandaviya urged officials to pivot toward worker-centric innovations across all operational domains as the organization approaches its milestone 75th year. He stressed the importance of institutional resilience, adaptability, and modern process evolution to meet the changing dynamics of the contemporary labor market.

As part of the foundation day events, the ministry also released seven specialized publications aimed at fostering knowledge creation, institutional learning, robust legal awareness, and compassionate governance across India's labor sector.
