Rare Political Reunion at Dadar Book Launch

In a rare display of bipartisan camaraderie amidst intense political friction across Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, and MNS chief Raj Thackeray shared the stage in Mumbai on Thursday. The leaders gathered at Dadar's Savarkar Smarak for the release of "Maharashtrachya Hasyaresha," a book chronicling the history of Marathi political cartoons by noted cartoonist Prashant Kulkarni.

The joint appearance immediately drew immense attention from political circles, coming as it does against the backdrop of deep political realignments and fierce competition within the state.

Lighthearted Jibes Light Up the Evening

The solemnity of a cultural gathering quickly gave way to lighthearted political humor as the leaders took turns at the podium. State Culture Minister Ashish Shelar kicked off the proceedings by praising Chief Minister Fadnavis for accepting Raj Thackeray's invitation, emphasizing that leaders must occasionally set aside ideological and political differences for the sake of art and culture.

Never one to miss an opportunity for a sharp quip, MNS chief Raj Thackeray responded by stating he would gladly continue inviting Fadnavis to future events—provided Shelar guaranteed that Fadnavis would retain the Chief Minister's chair through 2029. The witty condition drew immediate laughter and applause from the audience.

Fadnavis Fires Back with Political Wit

Taking the stage next, Chief Minister Fadnavis matched the humor in kind. He noted that while he readily accepts invitations from across the political spectrum—including from Uddhav Thackeray—he wryly pointed out that Uddhav had not placed a call to him since their political parting of ways in 2019.

Fadnavis also drew chuckles by gesturing toward the seating arrangement on the stage, noting that while other leaders had gravitated toward the left, he had consciously chosen to remain on the right side of the podium to deliver his address.

Concluding his remarks, Fadnavis delivered a final punchline directed at Raj Thackeray, suggesting that public figures should stick strictly to their core competencies. Given Raj's exceptional talent as a cartoonist, Fadnavis quipped, he should stick to the drawing board while leaving the complexities of governance to the political leadership.
