Emergency Response at Raisina Hill

NEW DELHI — Emergency services rushed to the historic North Block administrative building on Raisina Hill on Monday morning after thick black smoke was reported billowing from the rooftop.

According to preliminary reports from the Delhi Fire Department, the incident was triggered by a sudden short circuit while maintenance and welding work was being conducted near an air conditioning boiler installation.

Six fire tenders were swiftly mobilized to the high-security government complex. Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the flames before the situation escalated further, officials confirmed.

Quick Containment

"A fire broke out in an AC boiler installed on the rooftop of North Block. Welding work was underway when a sudden short circuit reportedly triggered the fire in one of the AC boilers. The fire has since been brought under control," a senior official from the fire department stated.

No casualties or major structural damages have been officially reported at this stage. Cooling operations were carried out by fire personnel to ensure no secondary ignition risks remained.

The incident briefly drew public attention after commuters and parliamentarians noticed columns of smoke rising from behind the red-sandstone complex. Member of Parliament Milind Deora took to social media to flag the heavy smoke while traveling toward Parliament, prompting widespread inquiries before emergency services confirmed the situation was handled promptly.
