Madhya Pradesh Man Files Police Complaint Claiming Wife's Refusal to Fast on Karwa Chauth Equals Death Threat
A bizarre domestic dispute has reached local law enforcement in Madhya Pradesh after a husband accused his wife of trying to kill him by refusing to observe the Karwa Chauth fast.

Bizarre Legal Dispute Unfolds in Shivpuri
In an unusual domestic dispute reported to local law enforcement, a resident of Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district has approached the police with a formal complaint against his wife, alleging that her refusal to observe the traditional Karwa Chauth fast is tantamount to a death threat.
The complainant, identified as Barelal Adivasi from Bijrawan village in the Kolaras region, submitted a written appeal to the local police station claiming that his wife, Mithilesh Adivasi, is acting "unfaithful" and jeopardizing his life by declining to participate in the annual ritual.
Allegations of Intent to Harm
Karwa Chauth is a traditional festival observed by married Hindu women in various parts of India, who fast from sunrise to moonrise to pray for the longevity, safety, and well-being of their husbands. According to Adivasi's formal statement to the authorities, his wife's decision to bypass the customs constitutes a direct threat to his safety.
"She is not observing the Karwa Chauth fast for me and she wants to kill me," Adivasi stated in his complaint. He further detailed that despite his requests for her to perform the evening moon-worship ritual associated with the festival, she has adamantly refused. The complainant has threatened to seek a formal divorce if she continues to decline participation in the traditional celebrations.
Police Intervention and Counseling
Following the submission of the written complaint, local law enforcement authorities acknowledged the matter and initiated steps to address the marital discord.
Sanjay Mishra, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Kolaras in Shivpuri, stated that the department is taking a mediating approach. Authorities plan to utilize the assistance of a designated woman police officer to counsel the couple and help resolve the underlying domestic rift without escalating the matter further.
Law enforcement officials reiterated that while the nature of the complaint is highly unusual, family counseling remains the primary protocol for handling such localized domestic grievances.
