Mahadev Betting App Kingpin Sourabh Chandrakar Extradited From Oman, Set to Face Trial in Raipur
Mahadev Online Book promoter Sourabh Chandrakar has been extradited from Oman by a special CBI team and will face trial in Raipur.

International Extradition Secured
In a major breakthrough for Indian law enforcement, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully extradited Sourabh Chandrakar, the promoter of the notorious Mahadev Online Book app and the alleged mastermind behind a sprawling illegal betting syndicate, from Oman. A specially deputed CBI team travelled to Muscat to escort Chandrakar back to India, marking a crucial development in the cross-border crackdown on transnational financial crimes.
Following his arrival, Chandrakar is scheduled to undergo mandatory medical examinations before being presented before a CBI Special Court in Raipur on Monday. The agency intends to secure a transit remand to transport him to Chhattisgarh for intensive questioning.
Network of Fraud and Hawala Channels
According to detailed findings released by the CBI, the Mahadev Online Book platform operated as one of the nation's most sophisticated and expansive illegal online betting syndicates from foreign soil. The network facilitated illegal wagering on a wide variety of events, including cricket matches, football games, and card games, utilizing a vast hierarchy of franchised panels and regional branches across India to enroll users and collect staggering sums of betting stakes.
Investigators uncovered that the immense proceeds generated from these illicit operations were systematically laundered through an intricate web of mule bank accounts. These funds were layered via multiple transactions and subsequently funnelled abroad utilizing illicit hawala channels. Furthermore, portions of the criminal proceeds were allegedly allocated to pay protection money to various public servants, ensuring the syndicate could operate without regulatory or law enforcement interference.
Multi-Agency Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Initially initiated following a formal request from the Chhattisgarh government, the probe was subsequently taken over by the CBI. The federal agency has already filed comprehensive chargesheets invoking provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act, alongside charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery. Chandrakar is named as a principal accused across these filings.
Parallel investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have resulted in the submission of formal prosecution complaints, alongside provisional attachments of massive movable and immovable assets belonging to the accused both within India and internationally.
The breakthrough in locating and detaining Chandrakar came through an Interpol Red Corner Notice issued at the behest of Indian authorities, which allowed the Royal Oman Police to apprehend him. The CBI has formally expressed its appreciation for the robust cooperation extended by the Sultanate of Oman and the Royal Oman Police, emphasizing that the successful extradition underscores India's unwavering commitment to bringing international fugitives to justice.
