Maharashtra MLC Poll Setback Tests Mahayuti Coalition as BJP and Shiv Sena Clash
The ruling Mahayuti coalition faces internal friction and blame-shifting after the MVA wins three out of five legislative council seats.

Political Aftershocks in Maharashtra
Following a significant electoral setback in the recent legislative council elections, the ruling Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra is grappling with internal discord. The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) secured three out of the five contested seats, sending alarm bells ringing through the state government's ranks.
State Minister Chhagan Bhujbal openly acknowledged the gravity of the defeat, describing the results as a warning sign for the ruling alliance. Speaking on the broader implications, Bhujbal emphasized the urgent need to evaluate voter sentiment and understand why sections of the electorate are drifting away from the incumbent administration.
Internal Friction and Blame Game
The electoral outcome has triggered sharp reactions and mutual accusations among the coalition partners. The central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intervened, seeking an explanation from state president Ravindra Chavan to investigate whether the losses stemmed from policy missteps or deep-seated factionalism.
Senior leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, are slated to hold an emergency meeting to address the mounting tension. Sources indicate that the discussions will center on damage control and enforcing stricter alliance discipline.
Accusations of Sabotage and Compromised Unity
Within the coalition, BJP leaders have pointed fingers directly at the Shiv Sena, accusing the ally of violating "alliance dharma." Tensions flared particularly over the Teachers' and Graduates' constituencies in Pune and Nagpur. BJP insiders claim that the Shiv Sena failed to provide expected support, backed independent candidates at the eleventh hour, and neglected to transfer crucial second-preference votes.
Further compounding the friction, allegations emerged that a Shiv Sena leader actively campaigned against the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, directly undermining the bloc's collective strength.
BJP MLA Nitesh Rane voiced strong displeasure regarding the lack of grassroots coordination, warning that internal sabotage poses a severe threat to the coalition's stability. Meanwhile, the ruling bloc continues to review its campaign strategies as it prepares to mend internal fractures ahead of upcoming political battles.
