Rain Forces INDIA Bloc to Postpone 'Public Impeachment' of Chief Election Commissioner to Saturday
Incessant rainfall in the national capital has forced opposition leaders to reschedule their symbolic 'public impeachment' event against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Weather Disrupts Opposition Schedule in New Delhi
Persistent rainfall across the national capital forced the opposition INDIA bloc to postpone its scheduled 'public impeachment' event targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The symbolic protest, originally slated for Friday afternoon, has now been rescheduled to Saturday at 4:00 PM.
The continuous downpour since early Friday morning rendered the lawns of the official residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at Rajaji Marg in Central Delhi unusable for the gathering, prompting leadership to call off the day's proceedings.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, confirmed the development to reporters, stating, "We all have collectively decided to shift the public impeachment to Saturday."
Proceedings and Preparations
According to internal sources, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is slated to chair the proceedings. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to formally move the symbolic 'motion,' while Rahul Gandhi will deliver the concluding remarks.
The event follows a high-level preparatory meeting held on Thursday, where senior leaders from the opposition alliance finalized the structure of the proceedings. Attendees at the Thursday strategy session included Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, and K.C. Venugopal, alongside key opposition figures such as Derek O'Brien of the Trinamool Congress, Harendra Malik of the Samajwadi Party, Mahua Maji of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and John Brittas of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Invitations for the gathering at 10 Rajaji Marg have been dispatched to all INDIA bloc Members of Parliament. Organizers indicated that alongside the top leadership, one representative from each constituent party is scheduled to address the assembly.
Escalating Tensions Over Electoral Rolls
The symbolic impeachment stems from ongoing opposition grievances regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have accused the Election Commission of India of severe irregularities and attempting to silence public dissent.
Earlier in the week, the Congress party alleged that local authorities denied them official permission to host the public proceedings, accusing the administration of attempting to suppress opposition voices. Beyond the rescheduled gathering, opposition leadership has announced plans for a broader, mega protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar slated for November 1 at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan.
