RG Kar Victim's Mother Voices Dissatisfaction Over Probe, Alleges Pervasive Medical Corruption
Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim and a sitting MLA, has expressed severe dissatisfaction with the ongoing probe and central investigative handling.

Investigation Stalled, Alleges Mother
In a sharp critique of the ongoing judicial and investigative processes, Ratna Debnath—mother of the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim and currently a legislator representing Panihati—has voiced deep frustration over the lack of substantial progress in the high-profile case. Debnath asserted that despite political shifts in West Bengal, systemic issues plaguing medical institutions remain unaddressed.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Debnath pointedly questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and its handling of the sensitive matter. She noted that her family had never advocated for a federal probe in the first place, and argued that the agency has failed to deliver concrete outcomes.
"If they cannot do the job, they should step aside," Debnath remarked, emphasizing that those she believes orchestrated and participated in the crime have yet to face true accountability.
Allegations of Unchecked Medical Graft
Beyond the specific criminal investigation into her daughter's death, Debnath turned her focus toward widespread corruption within medical colleges across the state. She claimed that graft has not declined despite a change of administration, indicating that entrenched networks remain operational.
The legislator revealed that she has recently acquired multiple files documenting alleged financial and administrative irregularities across various medical institutions. She confirmed plans to formally present these dossiers to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhkari to press for immediate inquiries and systemic reforms.
Political Transition and Pursuit of Justice
Debnath previously entered electoral politics, securing the Panihati assembly seat in the 2026 elections under the banner of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). At the time, she stated that shifting the political landscape was a necessary step toward securing justice for her daughter.
As the legal and political dimensions of the case continue to unfold, pressure mounts on both federal and state authorities to address the grieving family's grievances and provide transparent resolutions to the allegations brought forward by the legislator.
