Tamil Nadu's Aavin Hikes Prices for 63 Dairy Products and Sweets Ahead of Diwali
Tamil Nadu cooperative dairy brand Aavin has revised rates for 63 products, including ghee, butter, and sweets, just ahead of the festive season.

Festive Burden for Households
Consumers in Tamil Nadu are bracing for higher household expenses this festive season as Aavin, the state's premier cooperative dairy brand, announced a price revision across 63 products. The hike, which covers everyday staples as well as festive delicacies like ghee, butter, sweets, and dairy beverages, comes into effect on Wednesday.
Operating under the Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Department, Aavin cited escalating raw material expenses and rising production costs as the primary drivers behind the decision. The timing of the revision—immediately preceding Diwali—is expected to place an additional financial burden on families preparing traditional sweets and festive meals.
Key Price Revisions
Under the newly implemented pricing structure, several core cooking and baking essentials have seen notable increases:
* Ghee: A 100-gram pack rises from Rs 85 to Rs 95, while the 500-ml packaging increases to Rs 400 from the previous Rs 365. * Butter: A 100-gram pack goes up by Rs 10, moving from Rs 60 to Rs 70. * Curd: A 500-gram pack climbs from Rs 35 to Rs 40, and the one-kilogram package is now priced at Rs 130 compared to Rs 120 earlier. Premium cup variants (50 grams) see an increase from Rs 5 to Rs 7.
Sweets and Beverages Cost More
Traditional festive treats marketed by the cooperative have also been brought under the revised pricing matrix. A 100-gram pack of rasgulla is now priced at Rs 50, up from Rs 45, while a half-kilogram pack of gulab jamun climbs from Rs 100 to Rs 115. Other popular items, including mysore pak, have similarly been adjusted upward.
Beverages and liquid dairy products are not spared from the revision:
* Lassi: A 200-ml pack increases from Rs 20 to Rs 23. * Milkshakes: Ten distinct milkshake varieties, previously retailing at a flat Rs 30, will now cost Rs 35 each. * Buttermilk: Standard 200-ml packaging rises from Rs 8 to Rs 10, while the variant sold in PET bottles increases from Rs 12 to Rs 14.
Broader Market Impact
Aavin currently markets upwards of 100 dairy and allied items, ranging from basic milk packets to palkova, health mixes, chocolates, kulfi, and various ice cream flavors. While the cooperative remains a staple for millions of households across the state, analysts note that these continuous input-driven adjustments reflect wider inflationary pressures within the agricultural and dairy supply chains.
For consumers, the immediate impact will be felt directly at checkout counters as festive preparations peak across Tamil Nadu.
