Uttarakhand Helicopter Disaster

All six people on board a private helicopter, including the pilot and a Karnataka police officer, were killed after the aircraft crashed near Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. The tragic incident occurred amid heavy snowfall in the region, severely hampering initial tracking and rescue efforts.

The helicopter, bearing the call sign VT-HCX and operated by Trans Bharat Aviation Pvt Ltd, had taken off from Badrinath at approximately 1:14 PM, heading toward Dehradun. Shortly after departure, the aircraft lost communication while navigating the treacherous Joshimath valley.

Rescue Operations and Official Response

The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority confirmed that ground tracking systems lost contact with the chopper mid-flight, prompting an immediate alert. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the wreckage was located near ChaieN Village.

"A joint rescue operation was swiftly initiated, involving the district administration, the disaster management department, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)," Chief Minister Dhami noted, adding that he closely monitored the situation.

Teams from the Indian Army, local police, and the SDRF managed to reach the rugged crash site despite adverse weather, confirming that there were no survivors among the six occupants.

Victims Identified

Authorities confirmed that five of the passengers on board hailed from Bengaluru, Karnataka. Among the deceased was a Karnataka police inspector identified as Arun. The identities of the other passengers and the pilot are being formally verified as local authorities coordinate with families and state officials to repatriate the remains.
