Operation Adilabad: Cracking Down on Rural Financial Fraud

ADILABAD — In a major breakthrough against rural crime, the Adilabad District Police have successfully dismantled an inter-state syndicate accused of systematically defrauding farmers. The gang targeted individuals struggling to service their agricultural loan installments, luring them in with false promises of clearing their outstanding debts through vehicle leasing arrangements.

According to Adilabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhila Mahajan, the syndicate instead illegally transported the acquired tractors across state lines into Maharashtra, stripping owners of their primary agricultural livelihoods.

Following a series of coordinated raids and extensive technical surveillance, law enforcement officials arrested the prime accused alongside four local operatives. Authorities have successfully recovered six tractors with an estimated collective market value of Rs 40 lakh.

Modus Operandi and Local Collusion

Investigators revealed that the core operation was orchestrated by key figures hailing from Maharashtra's Amravati district, identified as Yogesh Patil, Sohail Rehan, and Asif, alongside accomplices Peetambar and Ambar Rao.

The syndicate leveraged local networks by employing accomplices in the Adilabad district. These local agents approached vulnerable farmers, convincing them to surrender their tractors under the guise of lease agreements while promising debt relief. For every vehicle successfully acquired, the local agents reportedly received a commission of Rs 10,000.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the network managed to traffic a total of nine tractors from various mandals across the Adilabad district. The operation's footprint included four vehicles taken from Indravelli mandal, three from Bela mandal, and one each from Utnoor and Tamsi mandals. Cases have been formally registered against the suspects across the Indravelli, Utnoor, Tamsi, and Bela police stations.

Swift Recovery Operations

Acting on actionable intelligence, SP Akhila Mahajan constituted two specialized police teams to track down the stolen machinery.

One specialized team tracked the trail deep into Maharashtra's Amravati district, successfully recovering five tractors. A second team simultaneously seized an additional tractor from the Chikhli area. Among the recovered machinery are two John Deere tractors, two Swaraj models, one Mahindra tractor, and one Powertrac unit.

Advisory to the Farming Community

In the wake of these arrests, the Adilabad police have issued a stern advisory to the regional farming community. Authorities urged agriculturalists facing financial hardships and debt accumulation to exercise extreme caution.

Farmers have been strongly advised against handing over their heavy machinery, tractors, or commercial vehicles to unknown intermediaries offering unsolicited lease arrangements or promises to clear outstanding bank loans.
