A Monumental Cinematic Marathon

For most film enthusiasts, catching the latest release at a local theater is a weekend pastime. For 60-year-old Glenwood Hoskin Jr., however, going to the movies evolved into a meticulously planned, record-shattering endurance test. According to official records from Guinness World Records, the retired tax officer successfully watched an astounding 1,207 films in cinemas over a 12-month period.

Between April 2024 and April 2025, Hoskin spent his days at the Regal Cinema in York Haven, Pennsylvania. Averaging 3.3 movie screenings every single day, he managed to decisively eclipse the previous global benchmark of 777 films.

Precision Planning and Routine

Achieving such a milestone required far more than merely sitting through credits. Hoskin approached his cinematic endeavor with the discipline of a professional logistical planner. Each morning, he systematically reviewed daily screening schedules, carefully timing his visits to maximize the number of features he could view.

His theater days frequently commenced early in the morning and occasionally extended late into the night, pushing past midnight. Beyond the sheer volume of screenings, Hoskin noted that maintaining a strict schedule and spending time outside his residence provided a welcome and stimulating challenge during his retirement.

Eclectic Taste in Cinema

While Hoskin sampled a wide array of genres, he gravitated toward comedies and animated films—the latter offering both reliable entertainment and, on a practical level, shorter runtimes. He frequently found joy in watching audiences react to comedic moments he had already experienced multiple times.

Several specific titles stood out during his year-long marathon. Animated features like The Wild Robot and blockbuster hits such as Deadpool & Wolverine notably exceeded his initial expectations, providing fresh highlights amidst an exhaustive viewing schedule.

Hoskin's successful bid underscores how a lifelong passion for film, paired with unwavering dedication and rigorous organization, can transform a simple hobby into an extraordinary world-class accomplishment.
