Early iPhone Duo Adopters Report Display Failures and Cracking Issues
Apple's first foldable smartphone is drawing early complaints from users reporting unexpected screen cracks and crunching sounds upon unfolding.

Folding Screen Failures Surface Days After Launch
Apple Inc.'s highly anticipated foray into the foldable smartphone market, the iPhone Duo, has encountered an early setback as a growing number of customers report severe display failures within hours or days of unboxing.
Users across multiple online communities have described hearing a distinct crunching sound when attempting to unfold their devices, immediately followed by the appearance of a prominent fracture along the central crease. Additional complaints highlight localized display malfunctions, including persistent white patches and unresponsive touch interfaces on the primary inner screen.
While the device features a secondary outer display that remains functional in reported cases, the primary folding screen rendering unusable hardware has raised questions among early adopters regarding long-term durability.
Apple Acknowledges Hardware Issues
In an official statement addressing the matter, Apple confirmed that it is actively monitoring reports impacting a subset of units.
"We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units," the Cupertino, California-based technology giant stated. "If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement."
The company maintained that the vast majority of shipped units remain unaffected by the defect and that impacted devices typically exhibit symptoms shortly after initial use.
High Expectations and Engineering Challenges
The launch of the iPhone Duo represents a significant design milestone for Apple, marking its entry into the competitive foldable sector after more than a decade of development. Company executives had previously touted the device's advanced hinge mechanism and stress-tested display durability as an industry-leading achievement.
Despite rigorous internal testing aimed at minimizing the visibility and wear of the central crease—a common vulnerability in early foldable iterations across the mobile industry—these initial field failures underscore the ongoing engineering hurdles associated with flexible OLED technology.
Impacted consumers seeking warranty support have been advised to schedule evaluations through authorized retail channels, though some regions have reported limited immediate availability for technician appointments amid initial demand.
