Former Bangladesh Air Force Officer Found Dead Months After Viral Hasina Escape Video
KM Tahsif Souri, a former Bangladesh Air Force flight lieutenant linked to a video of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing, was found dead in a river under mysterious circumstances.

Mysterious Circumstances Surrounding Death
Months after a viral video captured the dramatic exit of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh, a former air force officer believed to have shared the footage has been found dead under mysterious circumstances. The body of 28-year-old KM Tahsif Souri was recovered from the Turag River on October 28, just a day after he was reported missing.
According to local authorities, river police retrieved the body near the Rajabari Ghat in Dhaka's Uttarkhan area following an emergency helpline call. Tahsif, a former flight lieutenant, was discovered wearing a black shirt and white trousers. While law enforcement agencies have not yet confirmed the official cause of death, the incident has immediately triggered intense public scrutiny and profound concern among his family members.
Final Hours and Family Allegations
Recounting the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy, Tahsif's family revealed that he had spent the day shopping with his mother before receiving a call from a close friend in the evening. He subsequently went out, after which repeated attempts to reach him on his mobile phone failed.
Later that night, at approximately 1:35 am, Tahsif sent a text message to his mother stating he was returning home. However, he never made it back. His father, Enayetul Karim, expressed deep skepticism regarding the location where the body was discovered, noting that his son had no personal or professional business in that area.
Investigators have questioned the friend who reportedly dined with Tahsif that Tuesday night. According to the companion, he dropped Tahsif near his residence before heading home.
Harassment and Prior Dismissal
Tahsif's family and relatives have directly linked his death to the intense fallout from the video depicting Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country in a military helicopter on August 5, 2024. His cousin, Moshfeka Jahan, asserted publicly that Tahsif was targeted due to the widespread circulation of the footage.
"My brother was murdered. What was his fault? Sharing the video of Hasina fleeing? He did not even record it himself; he shared it as a citizen," Jahan stated in a public post, adding that he had faced persistent harassment, professional retirement, and ongoing mental torture following the incident.
Previously, Tahsif's career faced severe disruption when a fringe newspaper falsely reported that he was operating as an intelligence operative for India's R&AW. This allegation led to his dismissal from military service and the seizure of his passport for two years. Although he recently appeared on a podcast to address and push back against those false claims, his untimely death has reignited questions regarding political security and accountability in post-uprising Bangladesh.
