Iran Acknowledges Receipt of US Letter From JD Vance, Yet to Formally Respond
Tehran confirms receipt of diplomatic correspondence from US Vice President JD Vance as regional mediators push for peace talks and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomatic Channels Open Amid Ongoing Conflict
Tehran has acknowledged receiving formal correspondence from United States Vice President JD Vance, though Iranian officials indicate that a formal response has yet to be finalized. The diplomatic overture, directed by US President Donald Trump and delivered to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei, aims to establish a preliminary framework for potential peace negotiations and de-escalate tensions in the region.
According to regional reports citing sources familiar with the matter, the communication focuses primarily on outlining parameters for future dialogue rather than presenting specific terms for an immediate peace settlement. The outreach follows months of intense military escalation that began on February 28 with joint US-Israeli strikes, which resulted in the deaths of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior military commanders.
Tehran's Demands for Reopening the Strait of Hormuz
In the wake of the initial strikes, Iran launched retaliatory actions targeting Israel and regional US assets, alongside imposing strict navigation controls in the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global energy corridor responsible for transporting approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption. In response, the United States enforced a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Despite active diplomatic mediation led primarily by Qatar and Pakistan, a comprehensive ceasefire remains elusive. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran is currently reviewing proposals to end hostilities and normalize shipping lanes, contingent upon strict prerequisites.
Tehran maintains a firm stance, insisting that Washington fulfill seven core conditions before normal operations resume in the Strait of Hormuz. These demands include a comprehensive Middle East ceasefire, the unfreezing of foreign Iranian assets, the removal of sanctions targeting the nation's oil sector, and the complete termination of the US naval blockade.
Iranian state-linked media outlets have emphasized that any diplomatic initiative failing to respect this established framework will be deemed unacceptable by Tehran.
